In a proactive move to uphold teaching standards, the National Teaching Council has announced that the 8,000 teachers who fell short in the 2023 Teacher Licensure Exams will have the chance to retake the examination in March of this year.
Out of a pool of over 20,000 educators who participated in the licensure exams, a substantial 8,000 did not meet the required threshold for certification.
Dr. Christian Addea Poku, the Registrar of the National Teaching Council, emphasized the Council's commitment to ensuring that only qualified and competent teachers find their place in classrooms across the country.
Addressing concerns about the employment prospects of those who did not pass, Dr. Poku clarified that the National Teaching Council's role extends beyond public school teachers. While some licensed teachers may find opportunities within the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service, the licensing process serves a broader purpose of ensuring the overall competence of educators.
The decision to offer a second chance to the teachers aligns with the Council's dedication to maintaining high standards in the education sector.
Out of the 20,181 teachers who took part in the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 2&3, a notable percentage of 30%, representing 9,556 teachers, did not meet the pass mark.
The upcoming retake opportunity aims to provide these educators with a chance to improve their performance and contribute effectively to Ghana's education system.
