Spare parts dealers in the renowned Abossey Okai market are voicing their discontent with the current government, expressing dissatisfaction over the newly imposed taxes that are significantly impacting their businesses.
Expecting a business-friendly environment under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, these dealers are now disappointed and burdened by what they perceive as detrimental taxation measures. The dealers emphasize the importance of a stable business environment to foster economic growth and sustainability.
One dealer lamented the drastic changes in the country, stating, "Everything is being taxed, and we don’t see what the tax is being used for. I am paying GH¢6,000 for a container, and a part I used to sell for GH¢5 is now GH¢20." This sentiment echoes the frustration shared by many spare parts traders who are grappling with the increased financial strain on their businesses.
Highlighting the economic challenges, another dealer pointed out, "Some two years ago, we were selling Toyota Vitz for GH¢35,000, but it is now selling for GH¢70,000, and the cost of spare parts has also shot up due to high import duties and the unstable exchange rates."
In the face of these challenges, the spare parts dealers are looking forward to a change in government. They express their anticipation of voting out the current administration, seeking a leadership that can address their concerns and establish a more favorable business environment for economic growth.
