Banda-Nkwanta, a village on the Bole-Bamboi highway in the Savannah Region, witnessed a horrific scene on Monday when a man with mental issues went on a killing spree, claiming four lives.
The man, known as Daganaa, had come to a galamsey site near the village to deliver some goods and asked to use the toilet at a nearby compound house. When he was refused, he became enraged and stabbed one of the occupants before running away to another compound.
There, he barged into a room where two children, aged 10 and 12, were sleeping and assaulted them. He also attacked their grandmother, who was old and weak and could not escape.
He did not stop there. He moved to another house and stabbed a person who was lying in the veranda. He then locked himself in a room and threatened to harm anyone who came near.
The terrified villagers called the Bole police for help. When the police arrived, Daganaa attacked two of them, forcing them to shoot him dead.
The gruesome incident left four people dead and one critically injured. The injured grandmother was taken to Carpenter Hospital in Bole for treatment.
The dead were buried according to Islamic rites.
