In a bold move aimed at tackling unemployment within the healthcare sector, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has put forth a groundbreaking proposal to export nurses to other countries.
Recognizing the pressing need to provide gainful employment opportunities for health workers, particularly nurses, Mahama unveiled his innovative strategy during a recent tour of the Savannah Region. Addressing student nurses, he emphasized the importance of ensuring that healthcare professionals have access to meaningful employment upon completing their education.
Central to Mahama's proposal is the establishment of a dedicated unit within the Ministry of Employment tasked with recruiting nurses who meet the requisite standards for international deployment. By forging agreements with other nations, Ghana can leverage its skilled workforce to meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals abroad.
"We want to increase the production of health workers and nurses and we will employ them to work for us as many as we can but at the same time, we will sign agreements with other countries where we can post our nurses to go and work on fixed contracts," Mahama explained.
Under this visionary initiative, nurses will have the opportunity to embark on fixed-term contracts abroad, providing them with valuable experience while simultaneously addressing unemployment challenges at home. By harnessing the talents of Ghana's healthcare workforce on a global scale, Mahama aims to foster economic growth and professional development within the healthcare sector.
As the nation looks towards the future, Mahama's forward-thinking approach offers a promising pathway towards combating unemployment and creating new opportunities for Ghana's skilled healthcare professionals. Through collaboration and innovation, we can bridge borders and build a brighter future for all.
