In a scathing rebuke, Beatrice Annan, spokesperson for the John Mahama campaign team, has denounced the government's newly unveiled Performance Tracker as a thinly veiled attempt to manipulate public opinion and secure votes through deception.
Amidst much fanfare, the government launched its Performance Tracker at GIMPA, Accra, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Presented as a tool to enhance transparency and accountability in infrastructure project implementation nationwide, the tracker promised to revolutionize how project progress is communicated to the public.
However, just two days later, on April 12, the government was forced to acknowledge a glaring flaw: 67 entries included in the Performance Tracker were found to be erroneous. This admission, conveyed via a social media post by the Ministry of Information, underscored the inherent unreliability of the touted transparency initiative.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Beatrice Annan minced no words in her criticism of the government's motives behind the Performance Tracker. She lambasted the administration for resorting to what she deemed a cynical ploy to sway voters with false promises and misleading information.
Annan emphasized the need for honesty and candor from the government, particularly in light of the prevailing economic challenges facing the nation. With inflation rates soaring and unemployment reaching historic highs, she argued that the public deserves transparent and accountable governance, not empty rhetoric and deceptive tactics.
In the face of mounting skepticism surrounding the government's sincerity, Annan urged for a higher standard of public governance, one rooted in integrity and genuine accountability. She underscored the importance of forthrightness in reporting on the administration's performance, especially during times of economic hardship.
As the debate over the legitimacy of the Performance Tracker rages on, Beatrice Annan's critique serves as a reminder of the imperative to uphold the principles of transparency and honesty in public service. Only through genuine accountability can trust be restored and meaningful progress achieved for all citizens.
