In a shocking turn of events, tragedy struck in Kasoa as a military officer, believed to be in his late 30s, was fatally shot amidst a heated land dispute, while his two companions narrowly escaped unscathed.

The incident unfolded in front of the Millennium City Police station in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, sending shockwaves throughout the community.

According to sources cited by Citi News, the unfortunate altercation stemmed from a land ownership conflict, with a brother of one of the military officers having purchased a parcel of land from local chiefs in Millennium City. However, persistent resistance from landguards thwarted any development efforts on the property.

In an attempt to address the escalating tensions, the deceased military officer, accompanied by two colleagues, ventured to the disputed land after lodging a complaint at the Millennium City District Police Command.

Traveling in a Toyota Rav 4, the officers encountered individuals working on the contested land and instructed them to cease activities while they sought further intervention from the police. However, their plans were interrupted by the intervention of the Gyasehene of Millennium City, Benlord Ababio, who dissuaded them from pursuing the matter further.

Despite the chief's pleas, the officers proceeded towards the Divisional Police Command, prompting a fatal response from Benlord Ababio, who discharged his firearm at the vehicle from behind. Tragically, one of the officers succumbed to the gunshot wounds, while the others narrowly escaped unharmed.

An eyewitness, recounting the harrowing ordeal, described the chaotic scene, stating, "I saw the incident happen right in front of me... The Gyasehene Benlord Ababio fired at their vehicle just behind them, leading to one of the officers dying in the process."

In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities swiftly apprehended Benlord Ababio, fearing potential reprisals from landguards in the area. The chief was promptly detained and later transferred to the Accra Division by police authorities.

The heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and dangers inherent in land disputes, underscoring the need for peaceful resolution mechanisms and the preservation of law and order within communities.
