Teacher allegedly commits suicide over losing money to Aviator

In a heartbreaking development, a Senior High School (SHS) educator, Kevin Omwenga, was tragically discovered deceased in what authorities suspect to be a case of suicide. Omwenga, a dedicated teacher of Chemistry and Mathematics at Nyamira Boys SHS in Nyamira, Kenya, was found amidst mounting financial distress, reportedly stemming from his involvement in the Aviator betting game.

As per Area Assistant Chief Johnson Manyara, Omwenga's colleagues disclosed the troubling revelation that he had accrued substantial debt, purportedly amounting to about Ksh50,000 ($380), much of which was lost in his pursuit of success within the Aviator gaming realm.

Principal George Onkundi of Nyamira Boys School expressed shock at the news, emphasizing that Omwenga, though not officially employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), had faithfully served the institution under the Board of Management (BOM) for the past four years. Notably, there were no apparent signs of distress exhibited by Omwenga prior to the tragic incident.

Concerns escalated when attempts to reach Omwenga via phone proved futile, prompting concerned colleagues to conduct a welfare check at his residence. To their horror, they discovered his lifeless body suspended, a grim indication of the depth of his anguish.

Compounding the tragedy, Omwenga's wife and their infant child were away tending to his ailing mother in the village at the time of the distressing discovery.

Law enforcement authorities and the area assistant chief promptly responded to the scene, with Omwenga's remains subsequently transported to Nyamira Referral Hospital for further examination and processing.
